This is a simple little demonstration that is easy to set up and easy to run for science nights. Encourage students to come up with the animals at each layer of the demonstration!
Materials
- Food Chain Jenga Blocks
Safety Precautions

Demonstration
- Build the Jenga tower with Blue on the bottom, followed by Green, Purple, and Pink on top.
- Have students identify the layers as being different parts of the food chain, with the upper layers being consumers of the lower layers. For example, the bottom layer could be grass, the next layer bugs, the next layer frogs, and the top layer snakes.
- Give the students different scenarios that can affect the stability of the food chain:
- Say that some bugs die due to disease. This means that some frogs also die, as well as snakes.
